Dorothy Montgomery Goode

October 17, 1931 — January 29, 2023

Dorothy Montgomery Goode, age 91, passed away at home on January 29th, 2023. She will be remembered as a kind hearted, humble and creative woman.

The daughter of Reverend William E. Montgomery, Sr and Elizabeth Kimble Montgomery, she was born in Binghamton, NY on October 17th, 1931. She and her two brothers, Bill Jr. and John, were raised in Glens Falls, NY. She went onto attend Mt. Holyoke College and majored in Art History. During the course of her life, she had various careers: she was an Occupational Therapist, Special Education teacher and owned Design International, a shop that sold yarns
and handcrafted goods from around the world. A lover of French culture, she lived and worked in France twice during her life.

She married Richard Lever Goode on September, 11th, 1965. They settled in Clinton, NJ where they raised his three daughters, Allison, Lisa and Elena. Together they had one daughter, Karen. She remained a widow after the passing of her husband in 1972.

After more than thirty years in Clinton, NJ, she moved to Atlanta, GA to be close to her daughter Karen, son in law, Joe and two granddaughters, Elizabeth and Amelia. She then followed them to Nashville, TN in 2001. An active member of Franklin Historic Presbyterian Church, she enjoyed singing in the choir and volunteering with Meals on Wheels. She spent her free time gardening, traveling and fostered several dogs through Proverbs 12:10 Animal Rescue. She enjoyed spending summers in Waldoboro, Maine.

Shortly before her passing, she was able to meet her first great granddaughter, Harper Leigh Crofford, who was born on January 17th, 2023. Dorothy will be missed by so many family and friends who loved her. We will always raise a margarita in her honor and plan to celebrate her life in Glens Falls, NY later this year.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a charitable donation to Proverbs 12:10 Animal Rescue in Dorothy’s name.
