William (Bill) Tuck, Jr.

November 11, 1929 — January 14, 2022

Franklin, TN.

William (Bill) Arthur Tuck, Jr. passed away peacefully on January 14, 2022 in Brentwood, Tennessee. Born on November 11, 1929, he was 92 years old. The son of William Arthur and Clara Josephine Hall Tuck, he was born in Flat Creek, Alabama and grew up in Birmingham where he graduated from Phillips High School in 1948. He went on to attend the University of Alabama where he met his wife of 60 years, Helen Driesbach Smith. They married in 1951 and Bill graduated in 1952. Naturally, he was a lifelong Alabama football fan.

Following his graduation, Bill pursued his dream of flying, joining the United States Air Force. He flew the RB-26c at K-14 Kempo in Korea with the 12th Tactical Recognizance Squadron and rose to the rank of Captain. Entering civilian life, Bill worked with International Paper Company for 21 years and with Bowater, Inc. for 16 years. He retired from Bowater in 1994 as the Vice-President of Manufacturing Services. Over the course of their years together, Bill and Helen lived in many communities and traveled extensively. But their greatest joy was always found in their family.

Devoted to his family, Bill was predeceased by his beloved wife Helen, his parents, and his brother Robert. He is survived by his children Bill Tuck (Christie) along with their children Nathan (Andrea) and Hannah; Paul Tuck (Lisa) and their children Wesley and Caroline; Janet Tuck (David Hobson) and her children Aaron Hilley and Sam Hilley; Robin Baker (David) and their children Joshua (Eliza), Margaret, and Darry. He was also the proud great-grandfather of Ezra, Emmalyn, Annalise, and Natalia Tuck.

There will be a graveside service for Bill on Saturday, February 19, 2022 at Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens, 9090 Highway 100 in Nashville at 10:00am.

The family would like to express their deep gratitude to the kind and compassionate staff at Somerfield Health Center who thoughtfully cared for Bill during the last months of his life.

Because Bill had a lifelong compassion for children, the family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, https://www.stjude.org/ in Memphis or to Embrace Alabama Kids in Montgomery, https://embracealkids.org/
