William Edd Mitchell Jr., affectionately known as Bill, passed away on October 27, 2025, in Dickson, Tennessee. Born on April 18, 1953, in Nashville, Bill grew to be a well-respected structural engineer whose work left a significant mark on his community and beyond.
Throughout his accomplished career, Bill took immense pride in the projects he undertook. He was instrumental in building many churches and hospitals that serve as vital resources in their communities. Additionally, his expertise extended to designing DICK'S Sporting Goods stores, shopping malls, and notable large-scale projects, including the Colts football stadium. Bill's contributions to structural engineering exemplified his dedication and passion for creating spaces that brought people together.
Beyond his professional achievements, Bill was a loving husband and a devoted father. He is survived by his wife Karen and their three sons, Matt (Lisa) Mitchell, Justin (Ashley) Mitchell, and Henry Austin Mitchell. Bill's legacy of love, loyalty, and thoughtfulness will undoubtedly live on in the hearts of his 6 grandchildren and beloved dog Copper.
Known for his humor, Bill brought joy to those around him, making everyone feel welcomed and valued. His family and friends will cherish these memories, alongside the many contributions he made throughout his life. He was a devoted christian and served his Lord God, well.
Bill was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Henry and Lola. Though he is deeply missed, Bill’s spirit, values, and legacy will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him.
