William Smith

William Ashby Smith, Jr., son of the late Eugie Lawler Minor and William Ashby Smith, Sr. passed away Wednesday morning, December 8,2021 in Nashville, TN.  He was survived by his sons Turner Ashby Smith and Patrick Cleburne Ashby Smith, his grandchildren Rome Ashby Smith and Carlin Ann Smith.

Mr. Smith was born in Red Bay, AL November 20, 1951 but grew up in Memphis, TN.  He graduated from Memphis University School and went on to play football at the University of Georgia where he a was a member of Alpha Tau Omega.  After graduation he moved back to Memphis and received his law degree from the University of Memphis Law School.  While in Memphis he was a member of the University Club.

Bill loved his English bulldog, Lucie, but loved the Georgia bulldogs the most. He was very proud of both his sons and loved to spend time with his grandchildren.  In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Greenbrier United Methodist, Franklin, TN or Sons of Confederate Veterans, Columbia, TN.  Service arrangements will be announced at a later date.
