Wanda Etta Lewis, born June 14 1950 to Hattie Wilma Graves (Pender) and Willie Ashby Graves, SR in Harlem, NY.
Wanda married William Daley Lewis on April 29, 1972, and together they shared a beautiful life filled with love and laughter. They were blessed with a daughter, Etta Maria Lewis, who brought them endless joy and pride.
Wanda’s passion for education led her to pursue a Master of Education degree from NYU, and she dedicated over 30 years of her life to teaching as a middle school science educator. Her impact extended beyond the classroom, as she inspired countless students.
After retiring, both Wanda and William embarked on a new chapter in Nunnelly, TN. There she found joy in volunteering at Dickson Elementary School, where she assisted the science teachers for three fulfilling years.
In her leisure time, Wanda found enjoyment and creativity in sewing, knitting and crocheting. Her handcrafted creations brought warmth and joy to those around her and who she created for.
A woman of faith, Wanda was an active member of Christian Faith Center Church located in Dickson while living in Nunnelly before relocating to Jackson, TN for her post, post retirement. She found a home and community at Denmark Missionary Baptist Church, where she cherished fellowship and shared her faith with others.
Wanda will be remembered for her commitment to education, deep love for her family & community, and spirited nature. She leaves behind cherished memories and a legacy of love to those who were fortunate enough to know her.
On Tuesday April 16, 2024 Wanda willfully and joyfully answered the Lord’s call to return home. She was preceded in death by her parents; Hattie and Willie A. Graves SR. and husband; William Daley Lewis. She is survived by her daughter, Etta; brothers, Willie A Graves, JR. and Anthony C. Neal-Graves and a host of relatives and friends who will miss her dearly.
