W. "Hugh" Judd

April 22, 1955 — February 28, 2024

William Hugh Judd (1955–2024)

Hugh was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, son in-law, uncle, and father in-law who you could always count on in times of need and always had a fun or interesting fact to share about everything.

Hugh Judd, 68, of Nashville Tennessee, died unexpectedly on February 28th, 2024.

He was just settling into retired life after working at AT&T (formerly BellSouth and South-Central Bell or Taco Bell in some young minds) for over 40 years, and enjoyed taking his Boxster for a spin with his beloved wife of 43 years, Carlene, estate sale and pawn shopping, hiking in the Great Smoky Mountains with his best friends and doting on his two daughters, Amanda and Melanie and watching his granddaughters, Abbigail and Emma in basketball & cheerleading

Hugh graduated from Tennessee Tech with an engineering degree and his engineering mind was apparent in everything he did from the numerous mechanical and woodworking projects he enjoyed starting to the way he would intricately pack (or park) a vehicle or shopping bag like a perfect puzzle. Or even the meticulous way he would make down the bed for Carlene every night.

He was in a league of his own, full of wisdom, anecdotes, a sophisticated sense of humor and knowledge about everything you could imagine from the radio songs of his youth, to cars or anything vintage, to tools and different types of wood. Hugh was also never afraid to suggest how you might do something more efficient or safer and if you didn’t take his advice, he would be there to help clean up the mess you made. His love of Christmas could be seen by his kind and accepting neighbors starting in early November and extending at least through the end of February. Christmas music was easily his preferred listening.

We couldn’t have asked for a better husband, brother, father, grandfather or friend and we will miss Hugh, Hughbert, Dad, Daddy, Grandpa, every day. His memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved and still love him.

Hugh was preceded in death by his mother and father, Rebecca and Freddie Judd and is survived by his wife Carlene, sister Becky, brother Darryl (Beth), daughters Amanda (Jason) and Melanie (Chris), his father and mother in-law, Carl and Juanita Guye, nephew Matthew (Gerri), grandniece Karsen, and granddaughters Abby and Emma.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to help orphans and widows affected by war, to Mercy Without Limits https://mwlimits.org/ or to your favorite charity in Hugh’s name.

Immediately following the burial, there will be a Celebration of Hugh's Life for close friends and family at River Plantation Clubhouse Section VII, 1247 Gen. George Patton Road, Nashville, TN
