Virgil Luther Mann passed away peacefully in his sleep on May 15, 2025 in Nashville, Tennessee. He was born in Burkburnett, Texas December 19, 1925. He is preceded in death by his Mother Virginia Rebecca Pierce, father William Luther Mann, step father Isaac Allen Pierce, brother Allen Pierce, and niece Valerie Levan.
He was raised in Denton Texas, attended and graduated from Denton High School before entenng the army during World War II in 1944. He served in Germany and France and was a P.O.W. and was able to return home. He was honorably discharged in 1946. He received an EAME Campaign Ribbon with 1 Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Ribbon, and Meritorious Unit Award. After returning home he studied at North Texas State University receiving his B.S. Degree. He went on to work at the Loan Star Gas Company in Denton Texas until retirement. He remained in Denton until moving to Nashville to live with his sister.
He loved to travel, was interested in astronomy, and flying. He loved to draw pictures and write poems for holidays and celebrations for his family. Luther loved a good joke, big band music, and always a coconut cake for his birthday.
He is survived by his loving sister Virginia Ann Cudd, nieces Rebecca Breedlove (Larry), Amy Walls(Ken), nephews Bob Pierce, and Scott Cudd, and great nieces Katherine Breedlove (Luke), Emily Breedlove (Ryan).
A service in his honor will be held at Middle Tennessee Veterans Cemetery on May 29, 2025 at 2:00pm.
