Venable Lane Lewis III
(May 23, 1933 – January 1, 2026)
Venable Lane "Lane" Lewis III, 92, of Nashville, passed away on January 1, 2026. Born to the late Venable Lane Lewis Jr. and Janet Rife Lewis, he grew up in McMinnville, graduating from Central High School in 1951.
A proud U.S. Army veteran and Vanderbilt graduate (Class of 1958), Lane retired after a distinguished 30-year career with INA Insurance. He was a man of diverse passions—a skilled carpenter, a knowledgeable beer connoisseur, and a steadfast Vanderbilt fan who loved traveling to the beach.
Above all, Lane was a devoted family man. He shared 44 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Marilyn Evans Lewis, until her passing in 2003. He was a present and dedicated father, coaching his sons' baseball teams and leading their Cub Scout troops. He was happiest when surrounded by his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, to whom he was affectionately known as "Grandaddy."
He is survived by his sons, Venable Lane "Binks" Lewis IV (Laura) and Steven "Steve" Powers Lewis (Debbie); his sister, Anne Jameson (Bill); his granddaughters, Stephanie Hayden (Justin), Lauren Lewis, Kathyrn Crump (Gary), and Kelsie Vo; and great-grandchildren: Macie, Grayson, Connor, Colton, Brooke, and Quinn.
Visitation will be held at Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens on Thursday, January 8, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by a private graveside ceremony.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to your charity of choice.
