Tommy J. Jenkins, a beloved husband, skilled craftsman, and devoted family man, passed away on October 28, 2024 in Franklin, TN, at the age of 86. Born on October 9, 1938, in Bon Aqua, TN, Tommy carried an enduring spirit of dedication and calmness throughout his life, touching the hearts of many who knew him.
Tommy is preceded in death by his parents J.P. and Ida Jenkins, brother-in-law Esley Bruce Byrd, Jr., and nephew Richard L. Byrd.
He is survived by his wife Beverly Jenkins; daughter Lisa Jenkins (Rob) Schmittou; grandchildren Shelby K. (Mason) Notias, Tyler P. (Lizzie) Schmittou; great grandchildren Huxley T. Schmittou, Paislee L. Schmittou and soon to be great grandson Max Notias; sister Cathy L. (Howard) Abell; nephews Matthew (Amy Joe) Brown, Darrell Shane (Amy) Byrd as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and loved ones.
Tommy was a proud graduate of Hickman County High School, class of 1957. His thirst for knowledge propelled him to pursue further education at night school at the University of Tennessee, where he worked diligently towards a degree in accounting. His career began after high school when he joined the Nashville Bridge Company, followed by a significant tenure at Moore Business Forms as a salesman. He later went to Short Business Forms as a pressman and began a successful lifelong career. Tommy was not just an employee; he was a meticulous craftsman who earned skills to print and repair printing presses, leaving a mark on the industry he loved.
Anyone fortunate enough to know Tommy would describe him as a patient, caring individual—a true "fix-it" person. He had a genuine ability to resolve problems and bring peace to even the most chaotic situations. His calm demeanor was a source of strength for his family, especially evident in his tender relationships with his loved ones.
Tommy embraced life with an array of hobbies. A car enthusiast, he took great pride in repairing his 1985 Mercedes Benz. He also found joy in the world of printing, skillfully working with a five-color Heidelberg press, and spent nearly a decade part-time at Publix until 2020.
Beyond his professional skills, Tommy enjoyed flying model airplanes as well as practicing with his computer simulator. During holiday seasons, he cherished time spent with his family lounging together on the couch, often delighting in episodes of The Andy Griffith Show, a testament to his love for simple, easier times.
However, the greatest love of his life and high school sweetheart was his wife, Beverly. Together, they celebrated nearly 66 years of marriage, a partnership grounded in love, respect, and deep understanding. Tommy’s heart was forever anchored in his devotion to her, making their bond truly special in the tapestry of life they shared.
Tommy J. Jenkins will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of patience, kindness, and unwavering support will continue to inspire those he leaves behind. As we remember his life, we celebrate the profound impact he had on his family, friends, and community.
Visitation will be November 8, 2024 from 11:30am ~ 1:30pm with a Celebration of Life at 1:30pm and the burial to follow at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home.
