Thomas Edwin Stinson, 70, was born on May 1, 1956, in Topeka, Kansas, to Clarence “Ed” Stinson and Velda Shore Stinson.

Tommy attended Fairview High School and continued his education at Middle Tennessee State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering. He later earned an Associate Degree in Nursing from Tennessee State University. Tommy worked as a registered nurse at various facilities throughout the Nashville area, finishing his nursing career with the State of Tennessee.

Tommy had a brilliant mechanical mind and a deep appreciation for how things worked. He delighted in diagnosing tricky mechanical issues and bringing old equipment back to life. He was happiest when his hands were dirty and a problem was solved. He especially enjoyed working in the garden and producing his own food, finding great fulfillment in the honest, rewarding work of feeding his family from the land he tended.

Tommy was guided by a profound sense of humanity. He wanted the world to be a just and loving place for everyone. He believed that the world could be mended with patience and care, much like the machines and land he tended.

Tommy is survived by his wife, Jannie Stinson; his children, Scott (Becca) Stinson of Burns, Tennessee, Sheldon (Jon) Heugel of Athens, Alabama, and Cleve (Alexis) Stinson of Burns, Tennessee; his grandchildren, Samantha Heugel, Shelby Heugel, Charlotte Heugel, and Cora Stinson; stepbrother Ronnie Robertson; as well as extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence “Ed” Stinson and Velda Shore Stinson; his stepmother, Syble Stinson; and his stepbrother, Donnie Robertson.

The family cordially invites relatives and friends to visit on Wednesday, September 30th from five o’clock in the afternoon until eight o’clock in the evening at Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens, Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 9090 TN-100 in Nashville. The funeral service will be the following day, Thursday, October 1st at one o’clock in the afternoon with an hour of visiting prior to the service.

Reverend Ed White will officiate the service. Active pallbearers will be Scott Sinson, Cleve Sinson, Jon Heugel, Ronnie Robertson, Johnny Lee Jones and Bobby McNeese. The committal service will immediately follow.
