Sue Tarwater Amos, 76, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2026 in Franklin, Tennessee.

Born in Sevierville, Sue was the daughter of the late Estle Tarwater and Velma Ownby. She and her sister Sandy grew up in a loving home surrounded by family and hard work. They spent many days working on their grandparents’ farm. This is where her love of gardening began. Her yard was full of heirloom plants and flowers – her grandmother and mother’s peonies, iris, hellebores, lily of the valley and more.

She is survived by her daughter, Christi Bowen; her granddaughter, Kate Bowen; great-grandson, Declan Bowen; her sister Sandra T. Hood (the late Harold Hood); her nephew, Michael Hood (Lynz) and their children, Kaydence, John Michael and Garrett; her niece, Leah Wicker (Scott) and their children, Seth Wicker and Sam Wicker (Ellie); along with extended family and friends.

Sue was recently reminiscing that working for Pan American Airways was one of the happiest times of her life. She worked with the Flight Attendant Group at Houston Intercontinental Airport in the 70s and 80s. When Pan Am ceased operations in the mid 80s she moved back to Sevierville and eventually made her way to Nashville.

Sue attended Middle Tennessee State University and received her Bachelor of Science in Public Relations. She graduated in 2001 on the day she turned 51!

After graduation, she began working for the Mayor’s Office during the Bill Purcell administration and then at Metro Water in the Director’s Office.

Outside of work she loved to garden, spend time with family and attend Nashville Predators games – where she could be seen and heard to shout “Ref you Suck” as loudly as possible.

While she loved the Preds blue and gold, she dressed in the colors of the rainbow. Red on Monday, Orange on Tuesday, Yellow on Wednesday…and so on. She passed away on a Monday, and her Celebration of Life will be held on a Monday. So, if you feel so moved to honor her and follow her tradition, please wear something red.

While Sue loved flowers, memorial gifts to Alzheimer’s Association of Tennessee in her honor are also welcome.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, August 3, 2026 at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home Pavillion from 6-8pm, with tributes beginning at 7pm.

As per her wishes, her urn will be buried at Shiloh Cemetery in Sevierville on Friday, September 11, 2026 at 1:30pm where a graveside service will take place.
