Obituary Shirley Rae Nelson
August 27, 1933 - March 14, 2024.
Shirley was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Ernest and Lucile Kubisch. Nashville had been her home for the past 26 years. She is preceded by her parents Ernest and Lucile, her husband, Frank Nelson, stepson, Brad Nelson, and her siblings, Marilyn Childers (sister), Teddy Simon (sister) and Frank Kubisch (brother).
She is survived by her daughter, Shelly Jo Case (Doug Jones), her stepson, Joe Nelson, and her grandchildren, Elisa (Aaron) Schulman and Jacob (Stacy)Gardner, and their father, Donald Gardner. She is also survived by her step-grandchildren Autumn Nelson, Aquila Nelson, Sheila Dean and her great grandchildren Nathan Schulman (Julie), Micheala Pentecost (John), Alexandria Schulman, Amelia Schulman, Jada Gardner along with her favorite niece Julie Randall Pablo and other nieces and nephews. She was loved and adored by all and all who knew her called her “Grandma”.
Shirley was the family matriarch and a devout Christian and a lover of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was the prayer warrior, who covered her family and friends in prayer for decades. She was a good listener providing wise advice and encouragement. She was kind, generous, bright, and funny.
Shirley, being the eldest sibling, volunteered to work at a young age to help support her family during the depression. She became an entrepreneur owning several businesses, from golf courses to commercial fishing boats to construction companies. She continued working full time, until retiring at 80 years old.
She had many talents and skills. She was an avid lover of golf, owning a course, and attaining many trophies of the sport. She also loved music, played the piano and even got her pilot’s license.
The greatest gift Shirley passed down to her family, was her legacy of steadfast love and service to Jesus Christ. That inheritance is to a thousand generations. Deuteronomy 7:9
Shirley Rae Nelson will be cremated at Harpeth Hills Memory Garden, Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Nashville on March 16, 2024. Followed by a public celebration of Life in May 2024.
