Sandra L. Jones passed away peacefully on Saturday at her home, surrounded by those who loved her.

She was welcomed by her beloved husband, Michael Jones; her stepson, Christopher Jones; her parents, Harry and Ruth Skinner; and her brother, Robert Skinner.

She is survived by her stepdaughter, Margaret Henderson; her grandsons, Cody Henderson and Zach Henderson; her great-grandson, Christopher Henderson; and her lifelong friend, Cindy Lee, whose friendship from childhood remained one of the greatest blessings of her life.

Though born in Lexington, Kentucky, Sandra was raised in Nashville, Tennessee, where she spent her entire life. It was there that she built a life defined by service, friendship, family, and quiet strength.

Sandra devoted her career to education, believing every child deserved the opportunity to succeed. With a master’s in education and a postmaster Educational Specialist degree, she worked as a reading specialist. She was instrumental in developing Title I programs and dedicated her life’s work to serving children. She believed in the potential of every child and wanted the very best for each of them. She possessed not only intelligence but remarkable practical wisdom, the kind that quietly solved problems, encouraged others, and always focused on what was best for the children in her care. Her influence reached far beyond the classroom, leaving a lasting impact on countless students, families, and fellow educators.

Sandra and Michael Jones first met as teenagers while working together at a church summer camp. Although life eventually led them in different directions, their story was far from over. Years later, they found one another again, married, and shared 37 wonderful years together, building a life rooted in faith, love, home, and nature.

Together they found joy in traveling, especially exploring places rich in history and natural beauty. They appreciated the stories of the past, the quiet majesty of creation, and the simple pleasure of experiencing both together.

Their home was rarely without a beloved dog. Stray dogs had a way of finding Sandra and Michael, and more often than not, they found a permanent place in their hearts and home.

Sandra found great joy in refinishing antique furniture and preserving family heirlooms. She believed every piece carried a story worth saving and, with patience, craftsmanship, and care, lovingly restored those treasures so their history could continue to be shared for generations to come.

Sandra was known for her extraordinary organizational skills. Whether at work, at home, or in caring for the people she loved, she believed that planning well was another way of showing love. Even in the thoughtful way she prepared for the future, she left behind a beautifully organized life, a final gift of care, wisdom, and consideration for those she loved.

For many years, Sandra quietly lived with COPD. She seldom spoke about the challenges it brought or asked others to carry its burden. Instead, she faced each day with resilience, dignity, and quiet strength, never allowing her illness to define the remarkable woman she was.

Sandra will be remembered for her practical wisdom, unwavering integrity, exceptional organization, generous heart, and steadfast devotion to others. Her legacy lives on in every child she encouraged, every piece of history she lovingly restored, every stray dog she welcomed, and every person fortunate enough to be called family.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the hospice team, caregivers, friends, and loved ones whose compassion and kindness brought comfort and dignity during Sandra’s final journey.
