Samuel Everett Spivey III (Sparky), age 54, passed away Thursday evening June 26, 2025 at his home. He was born June 24th 1971, in Nashville, TN, a son of Annette Haines and the late Samuel Spivey Junior. He is also preceded in death by two step fathers Pedro Bell and John Haines.
After graduating from Harpeth High School, Sam, as he was known by his girls, earned the title of United States Marine in 1991. He served his country until 1994. Sam was a devout Vol and a graduate of the University of Tennessee, where he earned his master’s degree in Business Administration. Sam finished his professional career as a Director with Health Trust.
As Pippy (our late family dog) would say, he was very busy! He was a dedicated freemason with the West Nashville Phoenix Lodge, achieving the title of Senior Warden and 32°. He enjoyed “rambling” in his truck, collecting knives from Half Face Blades, cheering on the Astros and Vols, and getting way into fantasy football. Sam was looking forward to many traveling adventures, including running with the bulls, a bucket list experience. He was a lover of music, hijinks, and had an immense propensity for orneriness. Most of all, he adored spending time with his family. He brought a unique Sam gusto to all aspects of his life.
Sam is survived by his loving wife Amy (Amy Gaynor! Juices Gooses), his daughters Natalie (The Pooh) and Olivia (DollFace), and son in law Matthew. Sam was the cherished son of Annette Haines. He also leaves behind three biological children—Madelyn, Liam, and Kylie—two grandsons, and many adored cousins, aunts, and uncles.
Sam’s memorial service will be held at Christ Presbyterian Church (2323 Old Hickory Blvd Nashville, TN 37215) Saturday July 5th. The family will host a gathering starting at 2pm, followed by a memorial service at 3pm. After the service, there will be a reception with refreshments at the Harpeth Hills Memory Garden Pavilion. A committal service will be scheduled at a later date at the Middle Tennessee Veterans Cemetery.
To love and be loved by Sam was a privilege. Those who knew him know he was truly one of a kind. Our world is quieter and less colorful without him. He will be remembered for his infectious energy and tremendous heart that loved without ceasing. Although his physical presence may no longer grace our lives, his spirit will continue to be ever present with encouragement and unrelenting teasing. He will always be the coolest person we know. Go Vols!
In lieu of flowers we are accepting donations to West Nashville Phoenix (westnashvillephoenix.org/samspivey) or to Christ Presbyterian Church (Old Hickory Campus).
