Robert (Bob) LaBrec

December 9, 1942 — December 23, 2023

Robert (Bob) Edward LaBrec, age 81, of Oak Hill (Nashville), TN, peacefully departed this world on December 23rd, 2023, surrounded by loved ones.

Born on December 9, 1942, in Minneapolis, MN, to Alphonse Joseph and Eva Kleppe LaBrec, Bob's journey was marked by resilience and dedication. Bob's family moved to Florida in his teenage years, and it was there where he truly began to flourish.  He graduated from Palatka High School in 1960, was the editor of the school newspaper and an academic star, earning him a journalism scholarship.

He worked his way through college and graduated in 1967 with a Bachelor of Science from the University of Florida.  In 1965, he married Ithaca LaBrec, and in 1970, during their time in North Carolina, they welcomed their son, Bob Jr.  Additionally, Bob was proud to serve in the Army Reserves.  In 1973, the family moved to Nashville, where Bob established himself as an entrepreneur, founding his first company in 1976.

Bob's business acumen was recognized when his company made the Inc 500's list of fastest-growing companies in 1985, 1986, and 1987, a testament to his dedication and leadership. Throughout his successful career, Bob collaborated closely with long-time friends, Rusty and Wanda Green, building a partnership that endured for almost 40 years.

In 1997, Bob and Kathy Anne Ivey were married and shared 26 years together in their Oak Hill (Nashville) home. Their adventures took them across five continents and 24 countries, creating cherished memories during their travels.

Bob had a lifelong love for dachshunds, many of whom were affectionately named Gretel. His passion extended to sports, with a special fondness for the Florida Gators and the Tennessee Titans. He hosted spirited Gators vs. Vols football parties, reveling in the joy when his team won.

Bob is survived by his loving wife, Kathy Anne LaBrec; son, Robert (Jodi) LaBrec, Jr.; daughters Jessica (Tim) Mangrum, Amy (Jamie) Hazelwood; grandchildren Hailey LaBrec, Sophia LaBrec, Nathan Mangrum, Kaylee Mangrum, Kinsley Mangrum, James Hazelwood, Jacob Hazelwood, John Hazelwood; former wife and dear friend, Ithaca LaBrec; brother, James (Lisha) LaBrec; nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; and many friends and loved ones.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests considering a donation in Bob's honor to the Gleason Foundation or the ALS Association. Your contributions will support research and advocacy for those affected by ALS.
