Robert Bruce Blackmer, a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, veteran, author, and friend to many, passed away leaving behind a life marked by service, faith, kindness, and a genuine love for others.
Robert was born on December 1, 1934, in Niagara Falls, New York, to the late Albert Blackmer and Ida Ludwig.
Robert proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, where he served as a pilot. Following his retirement from the Air Force, his commitment to service continued when he later reenlisted in the Air National Guard. His years of military service remained an important and meaningful part of his life.
A gifted writer, Robert was the author of nine books. Writing was much more than an accomplishment for him; it was a lifelong passion and a hobby he continued to enjoy until his final days. Through his writing, he was able to share his thoughts, creativity, and experiences with others.
Robert was also a Grand Master of the Bellevue Masonic Lodge in West Nashville. He valued the fellowship, service, and principles of the Masonic community and took great pride in being a part of it.
Those who knew Robert will remember him most for the way he treated people. He never met a stranger and had a natural ability to make those around him smile. He genuinely enjoyed helping others and was always willing to lend a hand, offer encouragement, or simply share a friendly conversation.
Robert was also a man of faith. His walk with the Lord was never loud or showy; rather, it was steady, sincere, and reflected in the way he lived his life and cared for those around him.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Blackmer and Ida Ludwig; his beloved wife, Barbara Blackmer; his son, Mike Blackmer; his brother, Richard Blackmer; and his sisters, Janice Gilmer and Patricia Woodcock.
He is survived by his daughter, Judy Lowe; his grandchildren, Chris Lowe (Demi), Emily Weaver (Brent), and Craig Blackmer; and his loving great-grandchildren, Logan Lowe, Adelyn Lowe, Isabelle Blackmer, Brecken Blackmer, Brantley Weaver, Baylee Weaver, and Boone Weaver.
Funeral services honoring Mr. Bob’s life will be held on Thursday, October 8, 2026, at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home, 9090 Highway 100, Nashville, Tennessee 37221. Visitation with the family will begin at 11:30 a.m., followed by a Celebration of Life service at 1:30 p.m. Burial will follow at 2:30 p.m.
The Blackmer family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the incredible staff of Legacy Healthcare and Charter Senior Living of Franklin for the exceptional care they provided to Mr. Bob during his final years. Their kindness, compassion, and dedication went far beyond caregiving, as they treated Mr. Bob as though he were a member of their own family. His family is deeply thankful for the love and care shown to him throughout this chapter of his life.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to the Bellevue Masonic Lodge in Robert’s memory.
