Rex H. Roberts, 81 of Nashville, TN passed away peacefully on October 21, 2024. Born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama to loving parents Paul and Sue Roberts, and raised in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, Rex grew up in a close-knit family where values of hard work and integrity were instilled from a young age. He attended Dartmouth College where he played on the Freshman football team and was an active member of the Sigma Nu fraternity. Rex entertained friends and family with stories of how he frequently hitchhiked the 1500 miles between Mississippi and New Hampshire during summer breaks and holidays.
Shortly after graduating from college in 1965, Rex married the love of his life, Karen, and the two moved to Nashville, where Rex earned his law degree from Vanderbilt University. Following in his father’s footsteps, he began a long and successful career of over 30 years at National Life and Accident Insurance Company, where he served as General Counsel and Corporate Secretary. He was a respected leader, serving four terms as President of the Association of Tennessee Life Insurance Companies.
Rex's influence extended beyond the office as he spent many years teaching CLU courses and Insurance Law at the Nashville School of Law, His life was filled with a love for learning and teaching, as well as a deep commitment to his community. He served as a member of the Board of the League for the Hearing Impaired and as a mediator for special education cases with the Tennessee Department of Education. After retiring from law in 1999, Rex pursued his passions—teaching Bible studies, golfing, and reading. His faith was central to his life, and he served as a Deacon at Bellevue Church of Christ from 2014 until his passing in 2024.
Known for his wonderful sense of humor and quick wit, Rex spent cherished time with friends, particularly enjoying games and conversation with his neighbors. He is remembered for his warmth, generosity, kindness and wisdom. Rex was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Sue Roberts, his brother Jerry Roberts, and his son Jason Roberts.
Rex is survived by his beloved wife Karen, his son Jeremy (Kira) Roberts, and his two grandsons, Jack and Charlie Roberts. He leaves behind a family who will forever be grateful for his guidance, love, and unwavering support.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to New Heights Christian Community Services in honor of Rex’s memory.
