Ray Glenn Roberts

December 18, 1928 — December 6, 2023

Ray Glenn Roberts, 94, of Nashville, TN passed peacefully at home the morning of December 6 surrounded by family. He was born on December 18, 1928, in Manchester, TN, to the late Walter Hale and Beulah Roberts. Glenn was a family man to the core. Nothing made him happier than gathering the whole family together to celebrate an event or holiday over a meal.

Having three boys, there was always some sort of activity requiring his attention. Weekends were filled with football and baseball games, camping trips, fishing, and hunting. The boys enjoyed a great childhood because Glenn sacrificed his free time to make it happen. He spent many cold and rainy nights sleeping on the ground with Boy Scouts from troop 60. Glenn was always on the sideline for the football or baseball game when the boys were playing. He showed them how to dig worms, bait hooks, and have fun even if the fish weren’t biting. He taught the boys that fun was being together as a family whether in the station wagon on vacation or cutting a few truckloads of firewood.

Glenn was still heavily involved with the boys even after wives entered the picture, he just had to call on a different set of skills. He now became the expert in everything DIY.  He and the boys tackled almost every job in home construction. He was still in a crawl space soldering plumbing pipe in his 80’s. He enjoyed the sense of accomplishment he experienced working side by side with the boys, especially when they were adding value and saving money. Glenn’s favorite hobby was working on the farm. It didn’t matter if he was cutting grass, bailing hay, or tilling his big garden, these chores always kept a smile on his face.

Glenn also made significant contributions to the community. He was a longtime member of Bellevue Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for many years. He was awarded the District Award of Merit and the Silver Beaver from the Middle TN Council for his distinguished service to local Boy Scouts.

Glenn is survived by his loving wife of 73 years, Gladys; sons Jeff Roberts (Vickie, passed 5/8/22), Steve Roberts (Pat), Russ Roberts (Leslie); grandchildren Stephanie Roberts, Emily McReynolds (Josh), Courtney Williams (Brian), Susan Hough (Cody), Brad Roberts (Zoe), Mackenzie Caraballo (Anthony), Hannah Roberts; great grandchildren Josie and Hazel McReynolds, Quinton and Oliver Williams, Evelyn, Raelynn, and Maelynn Hough, Beau, Henry, and Gunnar Roberts.
