Peggy Williams Caldwell, age 83, passed away Monday, December 2, 2013, at her home at Park Manor in Nashville, TN.
Mrs. Caldwell was born in Murfreesboro, TN, on February 1, 1930, to the late George C. and Louise Jarman Williams. She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband of 52 years, the Rev. Earl E. Caldwell, and her brother George E. "Eddie" Williams.
She was a 1947 graduate of Central High School in Murfreesboro. She attended Brescia University in Owensboro, KY, and was a Certified Activity Director working in retirement homes and nursing centers in Kentucky, Ohio and Tennessee. Her husband, Earl, was a Presbyterian minister for over 50 years. She was proud to be a minister's wife working alongside him in the churches that he served, which included Auburn, Pewee Valley, Owensboro and Paducah, Kentucky, and Hubbard, Ohio.
Since moving back home to Tennessee, Peggy lived at the Cloister and Park Manor and enjoyed attending activities and spending time with her many, many friends. She was a long-time volunteer at Second Harvest Food Bank and a member of Bellevue Presbyterian Church, Key to the City and All States Bridge Club. A special ministry for her was knitting hats for cancer patients that were undergoing treatment at Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center.
Mrs. Caldwell is survived by her daughter, Beth Moore and her husband Paul, of Nashville, her brothers and sisters-in-law Carolyn Caldwell, James Caldwell of Nashville and Helen and Harry Caldwell of Murfreesboro, eight nieces and nephews, and their children and grandchildren.
Her "extended family" includes many dear friends who will keep her memory alive by celebrating Peggy's incredible gift of mentoring, encouragement, a giving spirit, and love of life. Her warmth and sincerity won her legions of admirers from all over the country.
Visitation with the family will be at Bellevue Presbyterian Church on Thursday, December 5, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. and will be followed by a celebration of Peggy's life at Noon. Interment will follow at Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens where she will be resting next to her beloved husband. Honorary pallbearers will be her friends from the Cloister and Park Manor.
