Mert L. Sloan, age 88, passed away peacefully on December 20, 2025, at 10:47 a.m. in Nashville, Tennessee.

He was born on September 15, 1937, in Paducah, Kentucky. Mert graduated from the University of Louisville and went on to build a successful and varied career. He spent many years in the restaurant industry as a franchise owner of Jerry’s Restaurants and Long John Silver’s, where he was known for his strong work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit. Later, he transitioned into commercial real estate, continuing to apply his business acumen until his retirement.

Mert was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He shared a loving life with his wife, Beverly Sloan (Gotto), in Brentwood, Tennessee. He took great pride in his family and found deep joy in their accomplishments and time spent together. A lifelong tennis player, Mert enjoyed the game socially and forged many lasting friendships on the court over the years, a reflection of his warm and personable nature.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly Sloan; his sons, Benji Sloan and his wife, Tova Levy-Sloan, of Barcelona, Spain, and Chris Sloan and his wife, Shannon, of Nashville, Tennessee; and his beloved grandchildren, Joey Levy of Miami, Florida, and Noah Levy and Caroline Levy-Sloan of Barcelona, Spain. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Jerry Short of Charlottesville, Virginia. He was preceded in death by his sister, Zan Short.

Mert will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his entrepreneurial drive, and the steady, meaningful life he built over the years. His presence, guidance, and love will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
