Obituary

Melanie Zimmer, 86, of Fairview, Tennessee, passed away on Wednesday, November 4, 2026. Born on March 6, 1940, in Evansville, Indiana, Melanie lived a life filled with love, compassion, and dedication to her family and others.

She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Christopher Scott Zimmer, and brother, Brent Weber.

Melanie is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Retired Colonel John F. Zimmer; two children, Jenny Zimmer Crouch and Timothy Daniel Zimmer (Emily); a grandson, Nathan Daniel Moretto; two great-grandchildren, Evalena Moretto and Hazel Moretto; a sister, Barbara Weber Clevy (Mike); and her three cherished grand pets, Zeke, Hugo, and Carl Dean.

Melanie devoted much of her professional life to caring for others as a Registered Nurse. Throughout her nursing career, she worked in both medical-surgical nursing and office nursing for her husband's practice, providing comfort, compassion, and support to those in need. Her caring nature extended well beyond her profession and was evident in the many ways she touched the lives of those around her.

As a military wife, Melanie embraced the opportunities and experiences that came with her husband's service. During their time stationed in Japan, she was an active member of the Officers' Wives' Club. While in Japan, she also enjoyed teaching conversational English. This experience was one of the many special chapters of her life, allowing her to connect with others and share her knowledge while experiencing a different culture.

Melanie found great joy in life's simple pleasures. She had a particular fondness for primitive-style crafts and décor, especially cross-stitching and hooking, and enjoyed spending time working crossword puzzles. She also appreciated her favorite treats, including green tea and ube. Whether enjoying her hobbies, spending time with her family, or simply appreciating a quiet moment, Melanie found happiness in the little things that made life special.

Above all, Melanie was a woman of faith who placed her trust in Jesus Christ. Her faith was an important part of her life and a source of strength and comfort throughout the years. She will be remembered for her caring heart, her devotion to her family, and the many memories she created throughout her life. While her love and presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her, her family finds peace and comfort in the promises of her faith and the hope of eternal life through Jesus Christ.

In lieu of customary remembrances, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation or to an animal charity of the donor's choice, honoring Melanie's compassion for others.
