Margaret "Peggy" Prass

PRASS (nee Kearney), Margaret Jean “Peggy” of Nashville, Tennessee, died June 11, 2024, surrounded by family and friends. She was born in Akron, Ohio on July 22nd, 1953. Her family moved to Dayton, Ohio in 1964. She attended Trotwood Madison High School (‘71) and was a member of the drill team (The Rockettes), president of the Tri-Hi-Y Club, secretary of the Varsity Choir, and was elected Homecoming Queen. During her summers Peggy would work at Camp Variety, a summer camp for young people living with disabilities. Peggy graduated from Ohio State University with a degree in Speech and Language Pathology in 1977 and danced with the Buckeye Collegiennes. She completed her clinical fellowship year at Case Western Reserve in Cleveland. She received a Master’s Degree in Special Education from Cleveland State University. Peggy and her husband Richard were married on May 24th, 1975, and raised three children and numerous pets together. She was a kind and devoted mother and wife.

Peggy dedicated her life and career to helping others, especially those living with learning disabilities. She spent most of her career working as a Speech and Language Pathologist in public schools located in Cleveland, Ohio and Virginia Beach, VA. Prior to her retirement in 2019, she worked for 10 years in Dickson County Public Schools in Tennessee. “Ms. Peggy” loved and was loved by her students, children, and grandchildren. She took immense joy in their achievements and development. In addition to speech pathology, Peggy led bible study for adults living with disabilities, worked as activities coordinator at Wyndemere Retirement Home in Virginia Beach, and volunteered with various organizations. People who knew Peggy always described her as a kind, encouraging woman with a huge heart. She will be dearly missed.

She is preceded in death by her parents Vernelyn H. Kearney (nee Latham) and William G. Kearney Jr. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Richard L. Prass, daughter Carrie N. Schwickardt (nee Prass) son-in-law Markus, grandchildren William and Sophie, son Brian G. Prass, daughter Natalie J. Prass, son-in-law Eric Slick, brother William G. Kearney III and his wife Rebecca Kearney.
