Mae Dean

Marion “Mae” Maynard Dean age 93, of Nashville, passed away on July 31, 2023. She is preceded in death by her husband, Clyde, her parents, Walter Lee and Louella Maynard, brothers, Glenn Maynard, Homer Lee Maynard, Walter Lee (WL) Maynard and Ray Maynard, sisters, Dorothy Simmons, Rachel Jennette, Barbara Davidson.

Survived by children, Gail (Roger) Smith, Barry (Janet) Dean, grandchildren, Grant (Suzanne) Smothers, Kristy (Patrick) Crawford, Lindsay (Daniel) Meek; great grandchildren, Mann Smothers, Murphy Smothers, Addison Crawford, Ansley Crawford, Savannah Meek and Sawyer Meek; sisters, Margaret Allen and Betty Willis.

Mae was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She graduated from Bellevue High School in 1948. She worked for the Tennessee Lung Association for 27 years. Mae loved sports of all kinds including golf, tennis, croquet. She loved listening to gospel music and playing cards and board games with Dad and friends. Mae was a big supporter of her children and grandchildren and attended as many of their games and events as possible.

Mom loved playing golf and is an honorary member of the Harpeth Hills Ladies Golf Association. One of her friends said that Mae was her favorite golfing partner. Many of her fellow golfers and tennis partners felt the same way.

There will be a Visitation Thursday August 3, 2023 from 9:00 am until the Celebration of Life 10:30 am all held at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home 9090 Highway 100, Nashville, TN 37221.

As mom said in her 1948 senior yearbook that her philosophy of life was “Education is what you have left after you’ve forgotten all you ever learned.” Her ambition was to become a DEAN!
