Obituary

Mrs. Madeline Buttrey Sullivan of Fairview, Tennessee, passed away on July 4, 2026, at Alive Hospice in Nashville, Tennessee at the age of 86 years.

Madeline was born on July 22, 1939, to the late William Lee and Lillie Lankford Buttrey. She lived in Fairview, Tennessee all her life. At one time she knew everyone’s telephone number! She married the love of her life, Wilburn Sullivan, on January 24, 1959. She supported her husband in his construction business and was a wonderful mother, homemaker, and friend to many. Madeline loved the Lord and was of the Baptist faith. Wilburn passed away on June 15, 2001. They were married for 42 years.

She and Wilburn had two sons, Justin (Janet) and Tim (Kristie). She was so proud of Justin and Tim. She also loved her daughters-in-laws just like her own and she made sure they knew it! Madeline was so proud of her grandchildren and great grandchildren and talked about them frequently.

Along with her sons and daughters-in-law, she is survived by her grandchildren Stephanie (Brett) Phillips, Kay Lauren Shope, Megan (Christian) Morales, and Natalie (Nathan) Farmer. Great grandchildren are Sullivan and Liza Ruth Phillips, Truett Shope, Chase, Ava, and Emery Fambrough, and Madelyn Morales.

Madeline was the oldest of her siblings and practically raised Eugene (Ruby), Eloise, Dorothy, and Ronald (Janice) Buttrey while their parents were raising tomatoes for sale. Eugene passed in 2021. Many nieces and nephews survive.

Visitation will be Wednesday, July 8, 2026, from 4-8pm and again on Thursday, July 9, 2026, from 9:00am – 1:30pm. A Celebration of life will follow at 1:30pm and will be officiated by Dwane Daughterty with burial to follow. All arrangements by Harpeth Hills Funeral Home.
