Lina W. Grammer

June 30, 1943 — January 20, 2024

Nashville

Lina Wells Grammer, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away on January 20, 2024, at the age of 80 in Nashville, TN. Lina was born on June 30, 1943, in Bells, TN.

She is survived by her loving husband, Phil Grammer; daughters, Mandy (Tim) Gauldin, Tiffany (Kevin) Kimbro; grandchildren, Ben Gauldin, Jack Gauldin, Maggie Kimbro, Lila Kimbro, Bea Kimbro; brother Bill (Ann) Wells, and extended family, whom she cherished deeply.

Lina was a graduate of Bells High School, where she was a standout in basketball. She obtained her bachelor’s degree at UT Martin and her master’s at Tennessee State University.

For three decades she served as an educator in the Metro-Davidson County school system, touching the lives of countless students as a dedicated elementary school teacher and reading specialist.

Lina’s life was a beautiful example of Christ’s loving-kindness and deep devotion to family. Lina loved Jesus, Phil, her grandchildren, and her family (and most likely in that order).

Her service in the community continued beyond retirement through numerous volunteer activities, including teaching Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and other ministry efforts at Forest Hills Baptist Church, where she and Phil raised their daughters and have been active members for 54 years.

She adored her “boyfriend,” Phil to whom she was married for 56 years. The highlight of the family calendar was an annual pilgrimage to the beach, where she held court with her grandkids and doted over them day and night. They were, collectively, the apple of her eye.

Lina's gentle nature and sweet heart were evident to all who knew her. She never withheld letting someone know they were loved. May she rest in the care of Jesus until we are gathered together by Him and can hug her neck once more.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 25, 2024, from 11:30am to 1:30pm with a Celebration of Life at 1:30pm and the burial to immediately follow all at the Harpeth Hills Funeral Home.
