Obituary

Kenneth Rollin Guerin, Jr., 82, passed away on October 15, 2026, in Nashville, Tennessee.

Kenneth was born on October 16, 1943, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to Kenneth Rollin Guerin, Sr. and Lora Belle (Escue) Guerin. He attended Istrouma High School and earned his undergraduate and master’s degrees in history at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana. He later completed coursework toward a PhD in history at the University of Mississippi before leaving to start his career.

Kenneth loved to dance, a passion that began in his younger years. He famously attended school dances without a date—not because he lacked options, but because he preferred the freedom to dance with every girl in the room.

Kenneth was a devoted LSU football fan and avid follower of politics. He proudly embraced his reputation as a curmudgeon in his later years, but many of his friends and family remember him for his good nature and ready laugh. He didn’t hesitate to share his opinion about most any topic. You always knew where he stood, and if you didn't, you rarely had to wait long to find out. His dry wit and independent spirit were unmistakably his own.

Kenneth had extensive knowledge of history and geography, subjects that fueled his lifelong curiosity about the world. He loved to travel, particularly to places rich in history. Among his most memorable adventures were trips to France and Scotland, where he enjoyed exploring historic castles. His daring side was also evident when he celebrated his 70th birthday by going skydiving.

Kenneth spent his career representing McGraw-Hill, selling textbooks to colleges and universities throughout much of the Southeast. His work allowed him to travel extensively, share his love of learning, and build friendships with colleagues that lasted well beyond their working years together.

Kenneth shared 36 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Dorothy Ann (Tierney) Guerin of Charleston, West Virginia, who preceded him in death. He devoted himself to caring for her throughout the last years of her life, and his commitment reflected his loyalty and lasting love for her.

Kenneth took particular joy in being a grandfather to his grandson, Campbell. From trips to the zoo to attending his concerts, sporting events, and other activities, Kenneth treasured their time together and enjoyed being present for the moments that mattered.

He is survived by his son, Christopher Campbell Guerin and his wife, Constance Nicole (Ely) Guerin; his daughter, Kathleen Tierney (Guerin) Bailey and her husband, William August Bailey, Jr.; his grandson, Campbell Ryan Guerin; step-grandson William August Bailey, III; his sister, Patsy Sharon (Guerin) O'Brien and his beloved dog, Tucker #2.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; his parents, Kenneth Rollin Guerin, Sr. and Lora Belle (Escue) Guerin, and his dog, Tucker #1.

A Celebration of Life will be held December 12, 2026, from 2:00-4:00 PM CST at The Pavilion at Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 9090 TN 100, in Nashville, Tennessee. In honor of Kenneth's Louisiana roots, family and friends are encouraged to wear festive Mardi Gras or LSU attire as they gather to celebrate his life with the color, spirit, and personality that made him who he was. Laissez les bons temps rouler!
