Katherine “Kathy” Natalia Emmons was born on April 21, 1941, in Foam Lake, Saskatchewan, Canada to Michael and Wasylina Fedak. She passed away on February 22, 2026, surrounded by immense love and her children, Tammy and Jason. She was the most special Baba to her granddaughters Taylor and Carly who she loved, and was loved by, more than anything in the world. She was the cherished youngest sister of Adele, Iris, Ollie, and Eli. She was the hilarious and spitfire aunt to Natalie, Christina, Lesia, Kim, Grace, Greg, Helene, and Gloria.
Kathy grew up in Saskatchewan on a wheat farm where she helped her family. She often told stories of her youth on the farm without indoor plumbing, her dog Peanut, being the youngest sibling, going to school in a one-room schoolhouse, walking to school in deep snow, and her childhood antics. Kathy moved to the Nashville area from Canada in the late 60s. She raised Tammy and Jason in Ashland City, Tennessee.
Kathy was best known for her sense of humor, her way of telling you exactly what she thought about everything, her love for her family, enjoying a cigarette, a cocktail or cup of coffee, and her easy smile and laugh.
Kathy maintained a wide and diverse circle of friends and remained closely connected at all times. She was always there for a chat with a friend on the phone, talks on her back patio, or fun times at the bar.
Above all else, Kathy was a loving mother and mother-in-law to Tammy, Jason, and Tony, and supportive and doting Baba to Taylor, Carly, and her dog-grandchildren Daisy, Ullr, and Pippin.
When her granddaughters were young, Kathy moved from Ashland City, Tennessee to Fort Worth, Texas to be a part of their upbringing. Even after their move back to Nashville, Kathy was always right there with them.
She regularly told stories of her granddaughters as little girls, picking them up from school, and all the fun she created for them. She would always let the girls create pillow forts in her apartment; made them homemade Play-Doh; took them on treasure hunt walks around her neighborhood; helped them make potions on her porch; and even let them swim in the pool in freezing April temps, even though she didn’t know how to swim, just because they really wanted to go. She was the best Baba anyone could have asked for.
A celebration of Kathy’s life will be held in late April where we will gather to share stories and love in memory of her beautiful time with us all. It will be a party just like she always wanted. More information to come via mailed invitation.
If you are considering any kind of donation in Kathy’s honor, in lieu of flowers, please donate in her memory to the Tennessee School for the Blind.
Kathy loved you all so much. She loved life, and she really lived it up. Thank you for being a part of it with her.
