Joseph Samuel Johnson, Jr., 88, passed away peacefully on July 16, 2026, in Nashville, Tennessee. Born on September 6, 1937, Joseph lived a full and meaningful life dedicated to his family, faith, and passions.

A graduate of Pensacola High School in 1955, Joseph went on to attend David Lipscomb College. He built a successful career at Life and Casualty until his retirement. Joseph also served in the Army Reserve for six years.

Joseph was predeceased by his beloved wife of 51 years, Jean Edney Johnson; his parents, Joseph and Carrie Bell Johnson; and siblings Vera Cooke, Clarence Johnson, and Elizabeth Ellis. He is survived by nieces Jeannine Tink and Laura Burkhart; nephews Bill Cooke, Ed Johnson, Lawrence Johnson, Andrew Ellis, and Steve Johnson.

A man of deep faith, Joseph was an active member of West End Church of Christ, Vultee Church of Christ, and Hillsboro Church of Christ throughout his life. His hobbies included genealogy and numismatics which reflected his love for history and connection to the past.

A memorial service will be held at the Hillsboro Church of Christ Chapel, 5800 Hillsboro Pike, Nashville, TN 37215, on July 23, 2026. Visitation will take place from 10:15 to 11:00 a.m., followed by the service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Harpeth Hills Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Tennessee Children’s Home (P.O. Box 10, Spring Hill, TN 37174) or Hillsboro Church of Christ Missions.

Joseph’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. May he rest in peace.
