John William Logston Sr. “Bill”, a devoted family man and cherished friend, passed away on January 6, 2026, in Nashville, Tennessee, at the age of 88. Born on October 30, 1937, Bill lived a life enriched by love, loyalty, and a steadfast dedication to his family and friends.
Bill was known for his generous spirit and relentless determination to support those around him. His life revolved around the bonds he created, forever prioritizing his family and readily offering help to anyone in need. He took great pride in being a father and grandfather, and his legacy is deeply woven into the hearts of his loved ones. Bill’s pride and joy were evident in his family, consisting of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, as well as his devoted dog “Baby” whom he loved to spoil.
An avid fisherman, Bill found solace and happiness by the water, and he often spent time on the lake pursuing his favorite pastime. He also enjoyed golfing and bowling, along with moments of relaxation while watching television or savoring poetry. A particular fondness for sports, especially football, was a hallmark of his vibrant personality. Bill also loved tinkering with computers and rebuilding them; a self-taught hobby he cherished. Many will remember him in his favorite recliner, where he could often be found enjoying a good game or listening to his favorite song, “The Master Calls.”
In his professional life, Bill worked several decades as an auto mechanic earning several certifications and awards during his career, including Cadillac Gold Master Craftsman and General Motors Master Technician. His early career began at Russ Engineering where he worked with his father building steel mills in the south. Then Bill traveled to Nashville to help his father and brothers to open and build Logston’s 76 Gas Service Station. He later retired in 2002 from Andrew’s Cadillac.
Bill's kind-hearted nature and passion for life were reflected in every interaction. He is survived by his daughters Angela Sullivan (Ronald), Tammy Jones (Raymond), and Melissa Lewis (Timothy), and his son John W. Logston Jr., known affectionately as “Billy.” He leaves behind his brothers Hernon “Buddy” Logston (Carleen) and David Logston, along with 17 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren who affectionately knew him as “Pawpaw”. He also cherished many nieces and nephews who admired and loved him dearly.
Bill was preceded in death by his father Robert Nelson Logston, mother Valdene Gale Logston, wife Mary E. Logston, daughter Jennifer L. Sturtevant, and grandson Ronald H. Sullivan Jr. Each of these individuals held a special place in his heart, and their memory shall forever remain a part of his legacy.
Visitation for John William Logston Sr. is scheduled for January 8, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and again on January 9, 2026, from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM at the Harpeth Hills Memory Garden, Funeral Home, & Cremation Center located at 9090 TN-100, Nashville, TN. A funeral service will follow on January 9, 2026, beginning at 11:30 AM, with burial to take place shortly thereafter at 12:30 PM at the same location.
John William Logston Sr. will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His unwavering commitment to family, his generous spirit, and his zest for life serve as a lasting inspiration to all.
