Captain John Robert Hurt – USMC
Capt. John Robert Hurt, age 75 of Nashville, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family, Thursday, April 27th, 2023 to be with his loving Lord. He was born November 25, 1947 and is preceded in death by his parents, Robert Nauman Hurt and Adine Fite Hurt and brother Benjamin Hurt. John is survived by his wife, the love of his life for 44 years, Gina Everhart Hurt, daughters Wendy (Tom) Clark, Christie (Dave) Stilwill and Tori (Terry) Bagsby; 9 grandchildren: John Thomas (J.T.), Kaitlinn, Harrison, Christian, Eli, Keely, Joshua, Jack and Dawn Josephine (Josie) and many other devoted family and friends.
John was a graduate of Castle Heights Military Academy and U.T. Knoxville, where he majored in happy hours. John went on to proudly serve in the United States Marine Corps. He obtained the rank of Captain and was one hell of a Cobra helicopter pilot and Chief Flight Instructor. His call sign was Dr. John. He also served in the Reserves after his Honorable Discharge.
John lived life to the fullest, never a dull moment to be had when he was around, and he certainly never met a stranger. He will sorely be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Special thanks to Tanya McVey who helped care for John in the final months and to all the Aveanna Hospice nurses/techs/volunteers, especially Kim and Melissa.
