Jerry A. Mays, known to most as “Poppy,” passed away peacefully surrounded by love. He left this world with dignity, his Marine cover on and draped in the flag he served under with honor.
Poppy was a strong, constant presence in the lives of those who knew him. He loved his family deeply and showed that love in quiet ways through service, loyalty, and grit. He had a stubborn will to fight through anything and a dry wit that never left him.
He is survived by family who adored him and friends who’ll carry his stories forward, stories full of trail rides, hard-earned lessons, and a heart bigger than he ever let on. Jerry leaves behind one daughter, Alicia (Mario) Mayes, one granddaughter, Lindsey (Micheal) Binkley and one great granddaughter, Willa Binkley. Jerry is also survived by two brothers, Alan (Ruth) Mays and Jack (Lori) Mays and one sister Carole (Eddie) Rainey. Jerry is also survived by former wife, Brenda, with whom he shared many meaningful years. Jerry was preceded in death by both parents, George and Sarah Mays.
Our family has felt so much love through all of this. Every message, every prayer, every kind gesture has meant more than we can say. Poppy was deeply loved, and we know he felt it.
