Obituary

Jeannette Ann Lyle Bayuzick, age 87, passed away on March 5, 2026. Born on August 24, 1938, in Braddock, PA, she made Nashville, TN her home beginning in 1965.

Jeannette devoted her life to her beloved husband, Robert “Buzzy” Bayuzick, supporting him as he pursued his education and career in Pittsburgh, Denver, Columbus, and ultimately Nashville. Their marriage was a beautiful example of lifelong devotion and the promise they made to one another: “until death do us part”. She loved him deeply and missed him every day following his passing.

Jeannette lived life with joy, humor, and a deep love for people. She enjoyed telling stories, laughing, dancing, singing, and entertaining others-often delighting friends and family with her unique ability to balance spoons on her nose. With her warm and charismatic personality, Jeannette truly never met a stranger. Her home and her heart were always open, especially to those who might otherwise have spent holidays alone.

During the years Buzzy taught graduate students, Jeannette welcomed many of them into their home, mentoring and caring for them as if they were family. One of her greatest joys during that time was planning gatherings and picnics along the river. Friends and students alike looked forward to the famous Bayuzick picnics she so lovingly organized.

Jeannette and Buzzy shared a passion for travel and were fortunate to explore much of the world together. Among her favorite destinations were China, Prague, The United Kingdom, Italy, France, Slovakia, Russia, Germany, Costa Rica and many more. They also enjoyed traveling throughout the United States in their RV, visiting the Rocky Mountains, the Great Smokey Mountains, and much of the Southwest.

A woman of deep faith, Jeannette and Buzzy were founding members of St. Matthew Catholic Church. Jeannette played an important role in building the parish community and strongly advocated for the creation of the parish school so that her grandchildren-and many other children-could receive a Catholic education. She served as the church’s first secretary to Father Hostetler and Father Schnup, helped establish the Women’s Club, and served as its president for many years.

Jeannette was also a passionate advocate for life. She helped bring the Tennessee Right to Life chapter to the parish, coordinated rosary prayers and the annual rose sale, and especially loved volunteering as the Tennessee Right to Life thrift store.

Above all else, Jeanette cherished her family. Her grandchildren brought her immense joy, and she loved each of them deeply and fiercely protected them. Her nieces and nephews also held a special place in her heart, and she loved them as her own.

Jeannette was a devoted and loving mother who always made sure her children had what they needed, She and her husband made many sacrifices so Carrie and Kellie could attend Catholic schools. She was deeply involved in their lives, serving as their friend, confidant, and greatest cheerleader.

Family was always her priority. Dinner was on the table at 5:00 pm sharp, and everyone was expected to be there. Those meals were a time to gather, share stories from the day, and strengthen the bonds that meant so much to her.

Jeannette’s joyful spirit, generous heart, and unwavering faith and love for family will be remembered and cherished by all who knew her.

Preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Buzzy” Bayuzick, her father and mother, Alexander and Stella Lyle, her brother, Robert Lyle and sister-n-law, Mary Ann Schneider.

She is survived by her daughters, Carrie (Gary) Hargis and Kellie (Bob) Kidd, her grandchildren, Knox, Alex and Andie Hargis, Roxie and Max Kidd and her step-granddaughter Kayla (Travis) McNabb, and several beloved nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tennessee Right to Life, St. Matthew Tuition Assistance Fund or Alive Hospice.
