October 12, 1957 – October 27, 2026
Jane Arvine “Polly” Whitson, age 69, of Shelbyville, Tennessee, passed away on October 27, 2026. Born on October 12, 1957, in Nashville, Tennessee, Polly was a loving wife, devoted mother, proud grandmother, and cherished friend who will be remembered for her vibrant personality, loving heart, and the joy she brought to those around her.
Polly grew up in Nashville and graduated from Hume-Fogg High School. She was a member of Fair Haven Baptist Church in Shelbyville, Tennessee. Full of life and always a little spunky, Polly had a personality that could light up any room. She had a little spice about her and a special way of finding the sparkle in everyday life.
Polly found happiness in life's simple pleasures, especially spending time at the beach with her eyes on the ocean. She also loved Dollywood and the wonderful memories made along the way. Above all, her greatest joy was her family. Her grandchildren were her everything, and she treasured every moment spent with them. Polly's love for her family was evident in all that she did, and she will forever be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, and YaYa.
Polly is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Barry E. Whitson; her children: Todd Whitson (Christi), Tabitha Ray (Quentin), Robert Whitson and daughter-in-law Amanda Whitson; her sister, Joy Johnson (Ed); her grandchildren, Jane Ray, Bailey Whitson, Robert Whitson, Addi Grace Whitson and Cooper Whitson; also numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Lois E. Walker, and her in-laws, Robert and Emma Whitson.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., with a graveside service to follow.
In honor of Polly's love for life and all things beautiful, the family kindly requests living plants in lieu of cut flowers.
Polly leaves behind a lifetime of cherished memories, countless smiles, and a love that will continue to shine through the family she adored. Though she will be deeply missed, the sparkle she brought into this world will never be forgotten.
