In loving memory of James Robert "J.R." Burnes, a man whose life journey was marked by resilience, hard work, and unwavering dedication to his family. Born in 1931 in Horatio, AR, J.R.'s life came to a peaceful close on March 1, 2024, in Nashville, TN.
He is preceded in death by his parents Mae Martin and Robert Burnes, siblings and son Kent James Burnes.
Survived by loving wife of 73 years Peggy Joyce Davis, daughter Sheri Burnes Reno (Tim), grandchildren Joseph Woods (Kelly) and Chelsea DeVar (Jamison) and 5 great grandchildren, Lilly, Gage, Logan, Landon, and Cora. Family meant everything to J.R., and he cherished every moment spent with his loved ones.
J.R.'s story is one of humble beginnings and remarkable achievements. From working in the fields at a young age to support his family, to becoming a football hero and excelling in various roles within the trucking industry, his journey was characterized by grit and perseverance. His proudest accomplishment was not only his professional success but also his commitment to education despite facing challenges along the way.
As a proud member of the Naval Reserves and a Mason, J.R. embodied principles of service, loyalty, and fellowship throughout his life. His dedication to these organizations spoke volumes about the values he held dear.
Throughout his life, J.R. remained deeply rooted in his faith and served as a deacon in his church. His compassion extended beyond the church walls as he drove the church bus, always ready to lend a helping hand wherever needed.
