Obituary

The family of Jacque Wolken is deeply saddened to share news of her passing on August 22, 2026, in Nashville, TN.

Jacqueline (Jacque) Louise Wolken was born May 19, 1937, in St. Louis, Missouri, to Josephine and Paul Sutter. Jacque was a student at Ursuline Academy before attending Fontbonne University.

Jacque met the love of her life, Gerry Wolken, on a blind date and they married in August of 1958 in St. Louis. Soon after, Jacque and Gerry, along with their growing family, relocated to Ithaca, New York in pursuit of Gerry’s master’s degree. This would be the first of thirteen moves throughout their 68 years of marriage, before settling and splitting their time between Nashville and Ft. Myers, Florida.

With every relocation, Jacque made each house a home with her decorating expertise. She continued her artistic passion of design, sharing her skills with her children and grandchildren over the years. Whether it be sewing new curtains or making bedspreads, she did it all.

Jacque had many interests and hobbies including painting, reading, bridge, theater, golf, tennis and working in her yard. She and Gerry enjoyed many social activities together including regular dinners with their close friends at both Fiddlesticks and Hillwood Country Clubs. Jacque was also involved with numerous philanthropic organizations over several decades including United Way, Hope Ignites, and Bobby Nichols Charity Foundation.

Mimi was the proud grandmother of 9 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren who all adore her. She was their Mimi “because she was too young to be called ‘grandma.’” They will remember her for her famous Caesar salad, surprise donut deliveries, hugs, quick wit and irreplaceable presence in their lives. Mimi always showed up to cheer for and support them at games, dances, events and countless other moments in their lives.

She was a devout Catholic and depended on her faith daily. Small but mighty, Jacque was a true force of love. You never had to guess where you stood with her. She offered her opinions, “I think you can do better!” freely, generously, and always out of deep love for the people in her life.

Jacque was the heart of her family. An extraordinary wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Memories of her will forever bring a smile to those who loved her.

Jacque is survived by her husband Gerry, sister Joanne Gavin of Cincinnati, OH, and brother Steve Sutter of Nashville, TN; children Kim (and the late Bill) Coakley of Nashville, TN, Kristen Wolken of Cleveland, OH and Keith Wolken of Nashville, TN; grandchildren Leslie Coakley Thallemer (Mike), Emily Coakley Tucker (Sam), Maggie Coakley Cummings (Reid), Abby Coakley, Joseph Coakley (Jessie), Brendan Messina (Beth), Derrick Messina, Paul Wolken and Grant Wolken; and an extended family of cousins, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on September 8, 2026.
