Ila "Lou" Woody Tate

(Ila) Lou Woody Tate - Peacefully entered the gates of Heaven, August 20, 2026. She had just had her 87th birthday. She was born in Mt Pleasant, TN to her parents, Robert and Ila Woody, who precede her in death. Also, preceding was her loving husband of 42 years, Tom, brother Robert L. Woody, Jr and nephew, Robert L. Woody, III.

Lou was a charter member, Elder, Deacon & Sunday School teacher at Bellevue Presbyterian Church, where she remained active until her health impaired her physical attendance. She did faithfully watch the streams of BPC services and marveled at her own tech streaming abilities. It was her steadfast believe in Jesus Christ and the Bible teachings that corner stoned the way she lived her life. Specifically, with compassion, care, love, a gentle spirit and a sincere love for others. Over her lifetime, she set a high bar for others, including her children, their spouses and her grandchildren as to what a role model of a mom, mother-in-law, grandparent and friend one should strive to be.

Lou had a 27-year tenure with the Nashville Chapter of The National Kidney Foundation, where she retired as Director in 2004. When not at The Kidney Foundation, she enjoyed playing cards with her “Poker Group”, while being a competitive bridge player as well. She was also a Cheekwood certified “Master Gardener”. While these hobbies she enjoyed, her greatest joy came from her 8 grandchildren. She and Tom could often be seen at soccer games, football games, plays, graduations, recitals, horse shows, or whatever the kids were doing, she attended if she could. The later phase of her life brought her joy by welcoming her 7 great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her 3 children Jim Jackson (Melanie), Beth Foutch (David) & Steve Jackson (Lynley). She was “Grandma” to Lanie Hoehn (Brandon), Hunter Jackson (Eloise), Haley Smith (Bryan), Coleman Jackson (Katelyn) & Benjamin, Graham, Joseph & May Lee Jackson. She had seven great-grandchildren as well.

A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, September 4th, at Bellevue Presbyterian Church, with visitation starting at 10:00 am and the service following at 12:00 pm. A private burial will be held at a later date.
