Rodgers, Helen Martin. Age 92 of Nashville.
Helen Martin (Honey) Rodgers died peacefully at home and went to be with her Lord and Savior on April 28, 2026. Honey was born January 31, 1934, in Montgomery, Alabama. She is survived by her children, Jan Dale (Bob) and Mason Rodgers (Michelle), her grandchildren, Caitlin Chapman (Luke), Emily Hufham (Bobby), Stuart Youngblood (Dillon), Abigail Jamison (Mike), Rachel Dale, Julianne Miller (Grant), Nathan Dale (Sarah), and Caroline Rodgers, and her great-grandchildren, Celia Chapman, Tate Chapman, Sutton Hufham, and Annie Miller. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 52 years, Joseph Mason Rodgers, her parents, Dr. John and Helen Gough Martin, and her sisters, Anne Pinkston and Mary Jane Blount.
Honey was a graduate of Sidney Lanier High School in Montgomery and Randolph-Macon Woman’s College. She and Joe were high school sweethearts and married on September 1, 1956, after college graduation. Following Joe’s service in the U. S. Coast and Geodetic Survey, they settled in Birmingham before moving to Nashville in 1961. Honey engaged in the Nashville community through involvement in the local alumnae chapter of Tri Delta, Sow n Grow Garden Club, and as a founding member of the Bible Study Fellowship in Nashville. She was also instrumental in establishing a Bible Study Fellowship class in Paris, France while she and Joe were living there in service to the United States. She was a Girl Scout leader for many years, influencing the lives of the girls in Troop 354. Additionally, Honey served on many boards, chairing those of Brentwood Academy, the Ladies Hermitage Association in the year of the tornado, and The Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary.
She was an active member of Brentwood United Methodist Church, grew in her faith as a member of Belmont Church, and served as a children’s Sunday school teacher and women’s Bible study leader at Christ Presbyterian Church. After her husband’s death, she found community and fellowship as a member of the Pilgrims Sunday School class at Christ Presbyterian Church and Centennial Club.
The family is grateful for her drivers and caregivers who supported and lovingly served her, extending her independence and ability to enjoy the last years of her life.
Honey dedicated her life to supporting and caring for her husband and their family. Her husband, Joe, said it best. “Whatever has been accomplished in our business, political, and social life, Honey should get credit for much of it. She has been that wife, supporter, and friend that is mentioned in the Bible. She is a person of great wisdom and knowledge and has been a true helpmate to me since we first met in 1951.”
Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 16 from 1:30 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at Christ Presbyterian Church, 2323 Old Hickory Boulevard followed by a memorial service at 3:00 p.m. officiated by Todd Teller.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Salvation Army or the Brentwood Academy Endowment Fund.
