Gretchen Keras Hart

September 19, 1947 — July 31, 2025

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Gretchen Keras Hart who peacefully passed away on July 31st, 2025 at the age of 77. She was a loving, devoted mother to Clay and Whitney. She took tremendous pride as Gigi to her grandchildren Warner, Belle, Lucy, Annie and Reid. Her life was dedicated to her family and she found endless joy in being around them.

She was born in Grosse Pointe Farms, MI. She was the youngest of the family and looked up to her older siblings, Meredith and Jim. She moved to Nashville at the age of 12 where she graduated from St. Cecilia Academy. To the very end, she enjoyed spending time with her highschool friends.

Gretchen started her professional career as a banker but quickly transitioned to her favorite career as a mother. She enjoyed gardening, lunches with friends, shopping and various home projects. She was known for her spotless home and sharing great household tips. She could often be found at Republican women’s luncheons, binging the Hallmark Channel at Christmas time, and watching football so she could relate to her son and grandson. Some of her favorite memories were when she had sleepovers with her grandchildren especially when her granddaughters got into all her jewelry.

She will be remembered for her sweetness, her incredible memory, attending as many grandchildren’s events as possible and handling her illness with the utmost strength.

She is preceded in death by her beloved parents, Kay and Jim Keras whom she missed dearly. She is survived by her children, Clay Hart (Karly) and Whitney Schickling (Chris), both of Nashville, TN; and five grandchildren, Warner, Lucy, Belle, Annie and Reid. She is also survived by her siblings, Meredith Moriarty (Phil) of Hinsdale, IL and Jim Keras (Penny) of Memphis, TN; nephews, the late Phipps Moriarty, Brooks Moriarty (Genny), Ben Keras (Lauren), Jay Keras (JJ), nieces Katie Whittier (Pete) and Poppy Arnold (Sean) and many grand nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at St. George’s Episcopal Church on Thursday, August 7th at 1:30 pm. Visitation will be held preceding the service at 12:30 pm in Hampton Hall. Following the service, a reception will be held at the home of her daughter. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations made to The Ensworth School or Montgomery Bell Academy where her beloved grandchildren attend.
