Glenn Gordon Shepherd
March 31, 1941 – October 18, 2026
Glenn Gordon Shepherd, age 85, passed away on October 18, 2026. Born on March 31, 1941, Glenn was a devoted father, grandfather, and friend who will be remembered for his quick wit, warm heart, and the genuine love he had for those around him.
A proud veteran of the United States Air Force, Glenn attended Bell Gardens High School in California before beginning a distinguished career with CSX Railroad, where he worked as a locomotive engineer until his retirement. His dedication and strong work ethic were evident throughout his career, and he took great pride in the years he spent on the railroad. Glenn especially looked forward to the second Wednesday of every month, when he would reconnect with his fellow railroad retirees to share stories, enjoy one another's company, and reminisce about their years on the railroad.
An avid outdoorsman, Glenn found great joy in nature. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time on the lake. He also loved restoring his antique Jeep Willy, a hobby that reflected his appreciation for the simple pleasures in life.
Glenn had a wonderful sense of humor and a personality that could brighten any room. He was quick-witted, loved to laugh, and always had a story to tell. One of his favorite sayings was, "To make a long story short," although those who knew him best would tell you that his stories were rarely short. After sharing one of his many stories, he would often finish with his familiar statement, "Like that!" His humor, storytelling, and ability to make others smile will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
Above all, Glenn loved people. He enjoyed good food, camaraderie, and spending time with his buddies. Whether sharing stories, enjoying a meal, or gathering with loved ones during the holidays, Glenn treasured the relationships he built throughout his life. His family was especially important to him, and the memories made during family gatherings will remain a lasting part of his legacy.
Glenn was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 25 years, Brenda Martin Shepherd, whom he married in 1993 and who passed away in 2018; his parents, Vern B. Shepherd and Irma L. Booker Shepherd; his son, Danny Shepherd; his brother, Gregory Shepherd; and his grandchildren, Brandon Shepherd and James Shepherd.
He is survived by his daughter, Shelley Gayle McArthur (Donald); his sons, Bradley Glenn Shepherd and Kent Michael Shepherd (Melissa); his granddaughters, Lauren Cook, Amber Shepherd, and Charlie Shepherd; and his grandsons, Kevin (KC) McArthur, Rusty Shepherd, and Barrett Shepherd.
Glenn leaves behind a lifetime of stories, laughter, and cherished memories. Although his presence will be deeply missed, his family and friends will continue to remember the joy he brought into their lives, the stories he loved to share, and the love he so freely gave.
His legacy will live on through the many lives he touched and the memories that will be shared for generations to come.
