Preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, John Sylvester; son, John Sylvester-Johnson; parents, Frances and Jerome Henry.
She is survived by her daughter, Suzanne Wilson (David); grandchildren, Stephanie Laster (Jason), Andrea Bledsoe (Keith), Anders Sylvester-Johnson (Stephanie) and Jon Kara Shields (Anna); 15 great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Joy Sylvester Johnson; sister, Patricia Cook (Merv); brother, Jerome Henry, Jr.; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was a strong, intelligent and independent woman. She loved foreign languages and traveling. She loved to be with her grandchildren.
A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. on Monday, December 16, 2019 at Oakland Memorial Gardens in Birmingham, AL. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date in Bellevue, TN.
Memorials may be made to The Rescue Mission of Roanoke, Tennessee Baptist Children's Home, Bellevue Baptist Church or a charity of your choice.
