Etta Leota Rawls

Etta Leota Rawls, passed away peacefully on July 29, 2025, in Nashville, Tennessee, at the age of 95. Born in Baxter, Tennessee, on November 9, 1929, Leota lived a long, full life defined by faith, family, and a giving heart.

She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn (Jimmy) Summers; her grandchildren, Teresa (David) Reynolds and David Summers; her great-grandchildren, Abigail Reynolds (Hill) Ray, Cooper (Kylie) Reynolds, Cade Reynolds, Addy Grace Summers and daughter-in-law Pam Rawls. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and cherished friends and loved ones.

Leota was preceded in death by her devoted husband, David E. Rawls, Jr.; her son, Barry L. Rawls; her parents, PaschAl and Louise Minton Allen; brothers Carl Allen and Frank Allen; and sisters Marian Athileen Powell and Imogene Carmack; as well as several dear friends at Joywood and Madison Churches of Christ.

Leota was known for her warm, funny, and spirited personality. She had a special gift for “investigating” — always curious, always aware, and always looking out for others. She was hardworking and a sweet soul who found joy in helping people. A proud Christian woman, she lived her life guided by faith and humility.

She worked for many years at JCPenney in Madison, where she was known for her dedication and strong work ethic. Family was at the center of her life — she adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Leota lived simply, appreciating the little things and always putting others first.

A special thank you goes to Stephanie Ogburn and Courtney Yates for their love, care, and support throughout the years.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Leota’s memory to the Church of Christ Disaster Relief Effort, a cause close to her heart.

Visitation will be held on Friday, August 8, 2025, from 10:00am ~ 11:00am followed by a Celebration of Life at 11:00am at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home. The burial will follow at 1:00pm at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Leota will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered for her kind heart, joyful spirit, and unwavering devotion to her family and faith.
