Obituary

Emily Sue Bennett Choate, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, peacefully passed away at home on October 23, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with dementia. Born on December 1, 1934, in Nashville, Tennessee, Emily was the cherished daughter of the late Herbert and Minnie Bennett.

Emily shared a beautiful life with her devoted husband, Donald Choate, whom she married on March 5, 1955, in Springfield, Tennessee. Their union, which lasted 56 loving years until Donald's passing, was a testament to their unwavering commitment and love. Together, they raised two wonderful children, daughter Donna Choate Howell and son Dwayne (Donna) Choate.

Emily's career began at Southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph Company, where she worked before and shortly after the birth of her first child. In 1978, she resumed her career, ultimately joining the Tennessee Department of Revenue's Title and Registration Department. Emily's dedication and hard work earned her a promotion to supervisor, a role she held with distinction until her retirement in 1995, Her colleagues fondly remember her as a supportive and inspiring leader.

Throughout her life, Emily was known for her warm smile and caring nature, qualities that endeared her to everyone she met. Her kindness and compassion left a lasting impact on all who knew her, and she was a treasured friend to many. Emily's legacy of love continues through her four grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren, each of whom carries a piece of her spirit.

Preceded in death by her husband Donald, her parents Herbert and Minnie, and her brother Henry Bennett. Emily is survived by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who will forever hold her in their hearts.

A service to celebrate Emily's life will be held at Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens and Funeral Home, located at 9090 TN-100, Nashville, TN 37221. In remembrance of Emily's generous spirit, the family kindly suggests making a donation to a charity of choice.
