Elaine Yvonne Veach, 88, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, died peacefully on Saturday, August 30, 2025, in Nashville, Tennessee.
Born July 27, 1937, in Jennings, Kansas, to Aloysius Louis and Credilla Ruth (Spohrer) Wahlmeier, Elaine was one of fifteen children and grew up on the family farm. In high school she was a cheerleader and sang in a vocal group. She later lived in Colorado, Texas, and Arkansas before settling in Tennessee.
Her Christian faith was central to her life; she attended Forest Hills Baptist Church for more than 20 years and cherished her Sunday school class and the friendships she made there. She loved Sunday lunches and holiday celebrations with family. She was a selfless, loving presence to her children and grandchildren, encouraging creativity in childhood, and offering steady support in adulthood. Her professional life spanned more than four decades as a skilled and dedicated insurance agent who cared deeply for the families she served.
Elaine was generous to her core, gentle, humble, loving and wise.
She is survived by her seven children: Teka Carper, Judd Carper, Jeff Carper, Yvonne Cummings, Joseph Veach, Gigi Sackleh, and Harry Veach; 12 grandchildren: Erica Akins, Tegan Akins, Portia Beaird, Bailey Veach, Lily Reynolds, Tristan Veach, Allison Turner, Isabella Turner, Emily Turner, Xavier Veach, Madeline Veach, and Ivan Veach; great-grandson Artie Beaird; and siblings Hugh Wahlmeier, John Wahlmeier, and Jane Cassidy.
She was predeceased by her husband, Wendell; her parents; sisters Loretta Byrne, Virginia Bruggeman, Rita Pallante, and Sister Frances Cabrini Wahlmeier; brothers Louis, Norbert, Vincent, Robert, Galen, Carl, and Paul Wahlmeier; and her grandson Nicholas Turner.
