Edwin Kelley Swift, 64, of Nashville, TN, passed away on January 31, 2022. Born on April 27,
1957, in Knoxville, Tennessee, he was the son of Betty Jo Swift and Clyde Edwin Swift. In
addition to his father, he is preceded in death by his brother Clark Alex Ander Swift.
Kelley was a 1975 graduate of Brentwood Academy where he was a standout offensive tackle.
He went on to graduate from The University of the South in Sewanee, TN, in 1979, where he
played football and was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. He had retired from a long
career in the insurance business.
As an avid sportsman and backyard naturalist, he enjoyed spending time outdoors. With a
passion for fishing he could often be found chasing striped bass around the waters of middle
Tennessee. Kelley shared his passion for football as a youth football coach for many years
passing on his love of the sport.
A devoted husband, father, son and brother, he is known for his quick wit and tender heart. He
was a faithful and lifelong friend to many.
He is survived by wife, Anne Newell Swift; son, Edwin Taylor Swift; mother, Betty Jo Swift;
sisters, Gwendolyn Swift Mottice (John); Joellyn Swift Helman (Eric); and a host of loving nieces
and nephews.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 3:00 on Sunday, February 6th, 2022, at St. David’s
Episcopal Church. Visitation will begin at 2:00 at the church in Sanders Hall. In lieu of flowers,
memorials may be made to
St. David’s Creation Stewardship Fund, 6501 Pennywell Drive,
Nashville, Tennessee 37205.
