Edward Cecil ( Sonny) Robertson, 97, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, October 19, 2025. He was born in Nashville, TN to the late William Cecil Robertson and Lossie Anna Graves Robertson. Born on June 5, 1929, he graduated from Isaac Litton High School in Nashville. Shortly after graduation he began his career in communication with Southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph Company. He later served his country in the US Navy as a Communications Specialist in Adak, Alaska and at The Pentagon, in whose capacity he decoded and transmitted Russian, Chinese and Korean messages until the end of the Korean War. He returned to his family in Nashville and his job at the company which would become ATT. He worked 41+ years until retiring in 1990 to care for his dad after a pancreatic cancer diagnosis. He was an avid fan of many sports. He loved horseback riding, playing baseball, golf, and enjoyed competitive bowling in leagues and tournaments nationwide. In later years, he enjoyed baseball as a spectator and had been a fan of the Atlanta Braves and, of late, the Chicago Cubs. His love of the sport connected him with many people and some of his happiest times were sharing that love of the sport with friends across the country who kept in touch during baseball season. Sonny, as he was known to his cousins, was an only child and those cousins became like siblings to him growing up. Through weekly Sunday dinners, summer vacations and holidays at the home of their Robertson grandparents, these relationships became an important foundation of lifelong devotion to his family. Years later, they began having annual reunions and continued their tradition of closeness. His generation would be proud to know this tradition of shared family time continues, he was very glad to know the first reunion had been a success. Having children of his own gave him the family of his own that he had longed for. He watched with pride as they grew up and made lives and families of their own. Grandchildren to love allowed his family to continue to grow and flourish. He was deeply grateful to live to see his great grandchildren come into the world. He described their generation as those who will carry his family and legacy into the future. He is preceded in death by his beloved son, William Kevin Robertson. Survived by children, Dawn (Kerry) Green, Karen (Ray) Moore, Kelly (Brook) Joyce and Jason Robertson. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren as well as countless family and friends who have loved him deeply. Visitation will be held on October 30 from 10a-12p with Memorial Service to follow. Burial will be immediately following at Hendersonville Memory Gardens. The family would like to thank the staff of HomeCare Solutions and Adoration Hospice for their tender care which allowed him to stay at home, a gracious fulfillment of his wish. Words cannot begin to thank all of those who have carried the family through such a difficult season. We are deeply grateful.
