David Lynn McFadden, age 75 years, passed away Sunday, July 20. 2025. at home after a brief illness. He is preceded in death by his parents. David is survived by his wife of 52 years, Patsy Dishner McFadden. He is also survived by his loved Siberian Husky, Mac.
He was born November 9, 1949 (on his father's birthday) to David Taft and Velma Mae Williams McFadden in Witt's Foundry, Tennessee. He was an only child but grew up surrounded by an extended family that included aunts, uncles and a family friend, Buck Eckles, who played a significant role in David's early life.
David was a Master Mason, Leadvale Lodge #390, White Pine, Tennessee, and a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason.
He loved his many good friends, good food, golf, storytelling, 1,000's of books, the great outdoors, his horses and his faithful canine companions. Growing up on a farm in East Tennessee, he never lost his love for the land, farming and gardening. Traveling was a passion where he enjoyed the culture and food of wherever he was visiting. He especially loved Paris and was fortunate to have visited there in April.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Nashville and was a devout believer in God Almighty and in the grace of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. David was a regular member and contributing moderator of the Praying Men of Leiper's Ford, a weekly men's bible study group.
David was a graduate of Morristown High School in Morristown, Tennessee. He attended East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, Tennessee, graduating in 1972 with degree in Media and Communications. He also attended the University of Texas at Austin for coursework in the Executive MBA Program.
David began his professional career as a newspaper reporter, starting as a "proofer" for the "Daily Gazette and Mail" in Morristown, Tennessee and then continued to other publications. Later in his career, he was privileged to serve in public relations for several Fortune 50 corporations and major hospital companies, including ExtendiCare (Humana), Sisters of Mercy Health System, Hospital Corporation of America, and the American Hospital Association. He was quoted in many major newspapers and appeared on many well-known television news programs, including CBS "60 Minutes". His one deviation from healthcare was his stint as Editor and Public Relations representative with Shell Oil Company in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was passionate about his work and developed many long-term relationships throughout his career.
A Memorial Service will be held August 2, 2025, at First Presbyterian Church of Nashville (4815 Franklin Pike). Visitation will be from 9:30-10:30 in Cheek House and service will follow in Stanford Chapel.
