“A great soul serves everyone all the time.  A great soul never dies.  It brings us together again and again” – Maya Angelou

Cindy Lynn (Hay) Hemby, age 55, was a great soul.

A Leo through and through, Cindy was fiercely confident, a natural leader, driven and passionate.  But she was also big-hearted, generous, and compassionate.  She was joyful, authentic, never pretentious and boy was she mischievous and funny. Hers was a life well-lived, making the world a brighter, better place for so many friends, colleagues, clients, neighbors and beloved family members.

Cindy grew up in Brentwood, TN and attended Franklin High School.  Following a passion, she  embarked on an adventurous career in health and fitness.  She first worked with Norwegian Cruise Lines as a Sports Afloat director for several years.  Upon returning to Nashville she quickly became a leader and innovator locally in fitness and exercise, beginning with The Club at Green Hills and The Delta, The Club at Bellevue, Westside Athletic Club and for the past 10 years with Boost FitClub.  Cindy was a trainer and Group Exercise Director throughout her career, most notably instrumental in bringing Spinning and Pilates Reformer to Nashville gyms. And she transformed bodies, minds and lives during those 30+ years.

Cindy was equally a champion for animals.  In 2004, she became a volunteer with Nashville Humane Association, caring for dogs rain or shine and especially on holidays when she knew they might be alone.  Honored multiple times as Volunteer of the Month and Volunteer of the Year, you could say she was as transformative in the lives of 4-legged friends as she was 2-legged!

Cindy was preceded in death by her parents, Pete and Gloria Hay. She is survived by her husband and soulmate of 19 years, Ron Hemby, and her daughter, her pride and joy, Amelia Hemby.  Cindy is also survived by her big sister, Leslie Hay, as well as the countless number of others who adored her.

The tributes to Cindy and the remembrances shared thus far have been powerful, touching and very much appreciated.  There will be a celebration of Cindy’s life this fall.   And we will all continue to be served by her legacy.
