Bonnie Stein

Nashville

After a long and joyous life of 100 years, Bonnie Smith Stein passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 8, 2023.  She was born on September 21, 1922, to Eugene Judd and Vera Smith in Chalybeate Springs, NC. She attended Campbell College (now Campbell University) and East Carolina Teachers College (now East Carolina University), then worked at Ft. Bragg during WWII. There she met her husband, Iwan Stein, Jr.  They were married in 1948, and settled in Richmond, VA, raising three children, Marsha, Kathie and Michael.She was a long-term member of St. John’s United Church of Christ where she was a member of the Altar Guild, and Women’s Fellowship.  She remained in Richmond until 2000, when she moved to Nashville, TN, to live with her daughter and son-in-law, Marsha and Bill Lund.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Iwan; son Michael; sisters Beth Howard and Betty Bartlett; brothers Holt Smith and Randall Smith. She is survived by her daughters Marsha Lund and her husband Bill and Kathie League and her husband Bill; grandchildren Kristi Garrett, Mark Schutt, Will League (Katie Lavin) and Matt League (Beverly); great grandchildren Jamie Garrett Castle (Michael), Logan and Tyler League, and August and Abigail Lavin League; and many beloved nieces, nephews and family.
