Pegram

Betty Jo Hovater passed away on March 10, 2024, in Pegram, Tennessee. She was born on June 19, 1933, in Portland, Tennessee. Betty was a devout woman and a loving wife to her husband, John, for 41 years. She was known for her strong faith and kind heart.

She is reunited in death with her parents, Johnny Dorris and Dewey Parker Dorris, daughter Jean Caldwell, son Joel Hovater, son Todd Hovater, grandson Kenneth Ervin, grandson Michael Scott, as well as all five of her siblings.

Betty Jo Hovater is survived by her son, Mike (Debra) Hovater, daughter Myra Thomas, daughter Lesa McNeil, and daughter Lori (Steve) Hanvy. She leaves behind a legacy carried on by grandchildren Hollie, LeSara, Machel, Misty, Mandy, April, Brandy, Jeanette, Scotty, Joey, Terry, Amy Jo, Karen, and Brittany; as well as numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Betty's hobbies and interests were a true reflection of her nurturing personality. She was a housekeeper for most of her life and found joy in canning vegetables, tending to her flower and vegetable gardens, cooking delicious meals, going out to eat, visiting with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and taking scenic drives to admire nature's beauty.

As a wonderful mother of seven children, Betty played an integral role in shaping the lives of her children and further generations. She was the backbone of her family—a God-fearing woman whose Pentecostal faith guided her actions. Her culinary skills were unmatched, with family members cherishing the memories of her fantastic meals and carefully canned vegetables.

Betty Jo Hovater will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her—a devoted wife, nurturing mother figure, gifted homemaker, and cherished friend. May she rest in peace knowing that her love and kindness live on through those she touched.
