Bernice Lawson

Bernice Lawson passed away at the age of 95 on February 15, 2023, after a brief illness. The daughter of the late Clarence and Gladys Holt, Bernice was born and raised in Wrigley, TN in Hickman County.

Bernice is survived by her son, Michael Thornton of Nashville; her  daughter, Phyllis Thornton of Pegram, TN; grandchildren Benjamin Dearman and Rachel Dearman; great granddaughter Josephine Marie Dearman; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by husbands, Rufus Thornton and John Lawson; and brothers Delbert Holt, Ray Holt and Gerry Holt.

After the death of Rufus, she worked for the National Life Insurance Company and then for Metro Nashville Public Schools from which she retired in 1991. She loved to garden and spend time with her family both at home and at the beach in South Carolina. She took many trips around the country with John and some of their friends. She was a member of Brookmeade Church of Christ and later Western Hills Church of Christ.

There will be a visitation Sunday February 19, 2023 from 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm and Monday February 20, 2023 from 10:00 am until the Celebration of Life 11:30 am all held at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home 9090 Highway 100 Nashville, TN 37221.
